As soon as 1875, Mr. F-X Warren's house in Murray-Bay was greeting its first travelers discovering the Charlevoix region. At that time, travelers coming from from all over Canada and the United States had to travel by boat, including the famoust "white boats", the only way to reach our region at the end of the 19th century. Around 1919, Sir Rodolphe Forget, Charlevoix member of Parliament and Federal Minister of Transport, Charlevoix was finally accessible using a railroad. Murray-Bay/Pointe-au-Pic tourist area benefited from the arrival of the train as the region was finally accessible all year round. The Hôtel Castel de la Mer, which succeeded to Mr. F-X Warren's house, was known well beyond the Charlevoix region. The original hotel operated until 1989, when a fire destroyed the Hôtel Castel de la Mer and its renowned "Bar des Sportifs". The Castel de la Mer was back in business two years later, with the latest expansion taking place in 2006.
